Van Gogh House Guided Tours are back!
We are very excited to be opening up for tours again from May 29th 2021. These first tours will be limited to 6 people in line with Government Covid safety guidance. From the end of June, as restrictions are lifted, we will be offering an extended tour schedule so we can welcome more visitors to the house.
Our guided tours offer visitors an opportunity to learn about 87 Hackford Road’s most famous tenant, as well as the architecture, history, and future of the house. The tour begins at 87 Hackford Road and includes a short walk to set the local context, followed by a tour of the house’s interior. Tours take place on the last weekend of the month and last about an hour and fifteen minutes. Tickets can be booked on Eventbrite and cost £12 + booking fees.
In Vincent’s Footsteps Walking Tours
We are excited to partner with Footprints of London to bring you a walking tour that retraces Van Gogh’s walk from his office in Covent Garden to his lodgings at 87 Hackford Road.
This extensive tour covers a 3½ mile journey (which Van Gogh alleges he did in 45 minutes!) exploring what London would have been like in the early 1870s. The tour traces the river Thames along what was then the newly built Victoria Embankment and across Westminster Bridge which Van Gogh sketched on Goupil and Co headed notepaper. The walk finishes with a guided tour of Van Gogh House, where we delve into how different life was then before indoor plumbing, domestic cookers, electricity and the motor vehicle.
Downloadable Virtual Tour
After a successful series of live virtual tours, we will be bringing you a downloadable virtual tour via our shop – great for those in all time zones.
Book a live Virtual Tour for your group
We are not running any scheduled live virtual tours at the moment, but we are happy to organise private virtual tours for larger groups. Our standard tour is led by Livia Wang and Janet Currier and incorporates audio recordings made by our volunteers during lock down. The illustrated talk explores the spaces of the house through its collections, architectural features and of course Van Gogh’s life in London as a young man. The tour lasts about an hour and a half including time for questions and discussion.
We will find a time and date that suits your group and can also design a bespoke tour that caters to your group’s interests. Private virtual tours start at £200 + VAT per tour. Contact Livia or Janet at firstname.lastname@example.org for further information
Our private, curator tours are for groups of up to 8 individuals. We will find a time and date that suits your group and can assemble a tour that caters to your group’s interests. These bespoke tours are £150 + VAT per group of 8, and last approximately one hour and 15 minutes. To arrange a tour, please contact email@example.com.
